K.B. Hallen

Short description
Like a phoenix, this new hall has arisen from the ashes after a fire gutted the original hall, which over the years has played host to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones.
Description

The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin are among the international headliners that have captivated audiences at K.B. Hall, the iconic sports, events and concert space.

In 1964, the venue also hosted the Beatles' first concert. When the functionalist masterpiece by Hans Hansen was built in 1938 and inaugurated by King Christian X, it was ground breaking in both size and architectural expression.

Lit by custom-designed Poul Henningsen lamps, it was, until an extensive fire severely damaged it in 2011, an important cultural landmark in Frederiksberg.

Since the iconic main hall could not be saved, it now rises like a phoenix from the ashes in a modern interpretation by Christensen & Co. The architects drew on original details and characteristics such as the arch construction and the logo, which is the very first thing that welcomes visitors arriving via the new forecourt.

A perforated square disc encompasses the arch-shaped building, giving it a hyper-modern look, while still nodding to the thirties design.

Whereas the building was impenetrable before, the new glass gable facing Peter Bangs Vej exudes life by providing external visibility to the space.

With its flexible interior, improved acoustics and up-to-date technology, the new K.B. Hallen has been taken to another level.
