The façade of Industriens Hus sends a message of continuous vibrancy. Aside from its electrical billboards, which represent members of the Confederation of Danish Industry, a series of LED lights can be programmed to create various expressions linked to special occasions, such as holidays or events like Copenhagen Pride, during which it's lit up in rainbow colours.
The Confederation of Danish Industry is an organisation owned and managed by 10,000 member companies within trade, service and manufacturing, so it's fitting that its home's location is one of the most prominent in Denmark.
Overlooking the Town Hall Square, its glass façade of playful diamond-shaped glass panels within a thin suspension of steel frames, sends a greeting to colourful neighbour Tivoli.
The building's comprehensive modernisation and extension by the Danish architect studio TRANSFORM completely altered its former dark, tile-clad façade into a bright, modern exterior. By removing everything but its floor slabs and supporting pillars, the 50,000m2 building now signals approachability and ease, especially with an atrium with a floor-to-ceiling height of no less than 26 metres.
Towards Vesterbrogade, three storyes has been added and the building now houses offices, a conference centre, shops, a TV studio and changing exhibitions for the public.
