Description

Metal racks are an integral part of Indian playgrounds. This version is located in Bisi Park in New Delhi, the official capital. Playgrounds are in short supply in Indian cities and many children are being deprived of their inalienable right to play — article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child clearly stipulates it. But rapid growth and population increases place tremendous pressure on public open spaces, including playgrounds. In India, many cities have issues with the ratio of open space available per person. One of the most crowded cities in the world, Mumbai, has an estimated open space ratio of less than 1,5 square meters per person. Ambitious future urban plans all over India are focused on increasing exponentially available open space, including playgrounds. Metal racks similar to the one in Superkilen will probably proliferate due to a low production cost combined with endless possibilities for the imagination.
