Teglholmen

<p>There's a tangible buzz in Teglholmen. This former brickmaking district, is named for its old brickworks and quarry dating back to 1871, a modern canal district of new homes, a marina, an impressive pyramid-shaped church and more take shape.</p><p>The development of Teglholmen is part of a massive regeneration of the south west of Copenhagen up to Vesterbro, which also encompasses Sluseholmen, Enghave Brygge, Havneholmen and Kalvebod Brygge Vest. The vision for it was awarded to the Dutch architect Sjoerd Soesters in 1999, and around 20 years on, with Skolen i Sydhavnen finally open, families are moving in.</p><p>Building in Teglholmen began in early 2008, with infrastructural necessities like new supply lines, canal excavations and piers for its quayside. Residential properties now occupied or for sale include the visually interesting S&oslash;m&aelig;rk by Vandkunsten Architects and Teglporten by Danielsen Architecture, whose prime position sees two of its fa&ccedil;ades face the harbour and another overlook a newly constructed canal.</p><p>To add to 2011's road bridge to Sluseholmen, a bicycle- and footbridge will connect Teglholmen to Amager Common nature reserve, while another bridge will join it with Enghave Brygge. In addition, a green boulevard will connect it with the old residential area of Sydhavnen.</p>
