Nordbro

Short description
Six buildings and a 100-meter tower are built to help address the serious shortage of affordable housing for Copenhagen’s many students.
Description

Copenhagen's characteristic slender towers and spires were the architectural inspiration for Nordbro, one of the newest constructions in the city's ever-rising skyline.

Accommodation for the increasing number of students in Copenhagen has been a hot political topic for several years, and by introducing this building, the city provides affordable accommodation and apartments for 700 students and visiting researchers. Yet, prices in Nordbro are still relatively high which has caused some critiscism after it opened in 2019.

The new Nordbro-complex right by Nørrebro Station consists of six separate buildings, five of them with six-to-seven floors and spaces in various sizes, as well as a high-rise studio tower of 29 residential storeys. To put it into perspective, the 100-metre-high tower will be 30 metres taller than Rigshospitalet, which has caused a degree of fuss from locals. They are, however, invited to share the magnificent view from above, as the city’s highest viewpoint on the 30th floor is publicly available.

In addition, the ground floor has space for café and stores, in an attempt to create a synergy between the housing project and the surrounding community.

At Hothers Plads, a so-called social hub entertains the students, a brand new street is established towards Mimersparken and common areas include an urban garden on the first floor and an enclosed green courtyard.
