It is said that the beach south of Santa Monica was originally called Mussel Beach; the name changed to Muscle Beach in the 1930s. At that point, athletes from a variety of disciplines like outdoor wrestling and even circus performers were training at the beach park. The area quickly became the place-to-be for celebrities, actors, stunt people and, of course, bodybuilders — a colorful and beefy crowd that would soon make the beach a popular destination for people who like to watch. By the mid-1950s, the park was internationally famous. Gymnasts and athletes from all over contributed by providing their own gym equipment, in order to widen the variety of activities offered at the park. Today, the fame continues, while the facilities present in the park offer more than 30 ways to work your body. A free mobile phone application offers also trainings and tutorials of all levels. No gym membership required.
